A Historic Byway
Efforts are
underway to turn the Michigan Road into a historic byway. This will
provide not only a greater understanding of a historic state treasure, but also
provide heritage tourism through many small towns and cities not often
included as destination points. By increased economic opportunities, it will
support the viability of many struggling downtowns and work toward the
preservation of historic properties lining the route. Our goal for byway status
is the summer of 2010.
Support is needed from communities lining the Michigan Road not only to increase awareness but also to encourage local and state officials to support the byway project. To date, organizational meetings have been held in New Carlisle, Rochester and Logansport. If you would like to help, be informed of upcoming meetings, or ask questions about the project, please feel free to contact us:
